Samui Yacht Club Regatta Week-end
Race (SYCR)
19th - 20th May, 2007 At Tradewinds Cottages in Chaweng
The SYCR started on Saturday
19th May at 1500 to allow the Firefly fleet, coming from Phuket,
launching in Bo Phut and the local folks to group off at Tradewinds
Resort on Chaweng Beach.
Winds at about 4 nautical
knot, flat sea and the beautiful background of Chaweng where the big
boys boats were converging to participate to the KSR Regatta later
during this week.
The race officers set a
windward-leeward short warming race back to back from the committee boat
Kaissa Kaia, kindly offered by Frank Walter and his Easy Charter Team.
Immediately, Mamba - Henry
Kaye took the lead followed by Moto Inzi - Roger Kingdon closely chased
- the local boat Coco Blues - Kunta or Armin Kundke, last but not least
( due to handicap ), the lively windrider 17, Asia Hidrosail - Ervin
Jansen and windrider 17 - Khun Tek.
The Second Leg saw The Frog
- Chris Jongerius joining the race and finishing second after Mamba,
with Moto Inzi closed behind.
The evening libation, great
Barbecue and free beer sponsored by John Stall and Khun Pang, owners of
Tradewinds, unfortunately not on site as Captain Squall decided to give
the sailing community a big scare …….!!!! GET WELL SOON SQUALLY.!!!
The second day Regatta, the
fleet started at 10.00, for a medium length course around Koh Kong Ok
and back to Tradewinds. Tricky reaching start and light winds ensured a
more tactical race this time with Mamba taking the lead around the rock,
sadly a hole in the wind stopped Mamba while the Frog and Moto Inzi
zapped past taking the first and second position. The local Sailor,
Kunta, early on the start had to turn back and start again, finishing
fourth, Ervin - Windrider fifth, followed by Tek - Windrider finishing
within the time limit of 5 hours.
The SYCR at the Tradewinds
with all prizes, 6 bottles of chilled wine, were opened and quickly
drained, thus ensuring sweet dreams for the thirsty sailors.
